supposed to attend the k-twins' birthday party last night...
but apparently, my body couldnt take it, and i started vomitting...
took medicine...but again, i vomitted everything out...
went to bed at 8pm...
slept until 9 this morning...

Our 1st reunion.

met up with kong jo at causeway point to fetch him to my house since he'll be staying for a night with me. went to pasir ris park with him to meet up with daniel, jeremy, aaron, kenneth...

the minute bus 403 stopped, the HEAVY rain came. so suay, the rain was so heavy we couldn't even walk. another group of them were waiting for us at the park itself. we waited like half an hour or so till we could walk on. finally, we met up with them. had a fun time 'sabo-ing' kenneth, the bdae boy. it's a pity his twin, keith couldn't join us. but anyway, practically all the guys got thrown in, except for reagan and kong jo. haha. went cycling for 45mins after that. everyone had great time.

dinner was at this western restaurant at fishermen's village. the fish n chips and chicken chop were great. kenneth had his 'mashed-up'bdae cake! poor thing. haha. took the bus back to pasir ris interchange after that. we were singing our songs throughout the bus ride. 1st time i'm doing such a thing. haha. but no one is the bus complained though. so i guess our singing was great? haha. went home with kong jo after that. he slept in the same room as my bro.

church. yan ming, reagan and kong jo attended bedok's service. andris, kevin and i did our sharing on the thaliand trip during service.

this time it's in jb! how exciting! we had a super quick lunch at church. it took us only 5 mins to finish our burgers! met up with the others at bugis mrt. so, a group of us (kevin, andris, evan, grace, kenneth, cheryl, jeremy, yan ming, reagan, kong jo, candice, uncle pak fook, jia ni) took the bus and off we go! reached jb, and we went to City Square to shop while waiting for the next group (sheena, shermaine, aaron, daniel and uncle paul).

went for dinner at 6.30pm when the whole group met up. dinner was on kong jo's parents at this seafood restaurant. we went to kong jo's house after that. sang songs, reflected on what we learnt from this trip, planned for cell group, watched videos and pics taken from the trip and finally prayed. we left at about 10.30pm.

the malaysia customs was jammed!!! didn't even have to walk and we were pushed by people around us. we queued for the bus that took us back to singapore. and guess what?! the rest of the group boarded the bus except kenneth and i. yupz, we had to take the next bus. so met up with the rest at singapore customs.

luckily for me, grace's dad sent me home. reached home at about 12.

Today is our last day in Chiang Mai. It's a free and easy day for all today. Since we had nothing to do, everyone woke up late, except for some - it was those who woke up early that were so bo liao to go sabotage the others. And what did they do? Go round drawing on their hands, legs and faces. And strumming the guitar so loudly just to wake us up.

We left the Payap Christian Zone for the airport at 4.45pm.
Bade our goodbyes and reached Singapore at 11.30pm.

On this Sunday morning, we woke up to breakfast cooked by Keith, and we had morning devotional after breakfast. Church service followed up next where Uncle Paul preached about Youths and Daniel and Kevin sharing touching stories of how internship in Chiang Mai changed their hearts. They both did a great job. At the end of everything the team sang some songs for the church: Someday, and Why So Downcast.

Emotions went high after that as Daniel had broke down and cried as his story was heartbreaking. We all prayed around him and comforted him and even cried with him. It goes to show how much we have bonded during this trip through God. Now we’re a close brothers and sisters in Christ.

After that, we went to the children’s home and spent an afternoon there playing really fun games, singing action songs, like “Give me a J! J you got your J!” and a Thai campfire dance we did a few days back in Baw Gaew. Seeing the children happy was worth the time we were there, and that made us happy. Amidst all the fatigue, the smiles on these children’s faces perked us up better than any coffee could.

Kenneth, Candice, and Kevin had to leave for the airport in the evening, and we saw them off in the children’s home but had earlier decided to surprise them by showing up at the airport with flowers and cards. All these went off without a hitch, and we could see that they were pretty moved by our actions. Again, it goes to show how close we were, and how much we had bonded.All too soon, we had to go. We said our goodbyes and left the airport for the Walking Street. We spent two hours there. We bought quite a lot of stuff, mostly souvenirs, and met later at some coffee house where we had a short coffee break before returning to the Zone.

Late at night, we decided that the Jao Ford (the pick up truck that the apprentices used) was pretty much looking like an army truck, mud and all and we went to clean up the truck, which now looks like it’s just been bought. A round of failed water fights ensued when we found out we were cleaning the truck using Daniel’s blessed boxers. We turned in at around 6 am in the morning (Monday) before starting the new day.

God works in awesome and mysterious ways. For a day comprising mainly of traveling in the morning and shopping in the afternoon, there were surprisingly many learning opportunities.

In the morning, as we left Baw Gaew, we did a collection for the local church to thank them for their generosity. Haley later shared with the group that our hosts were in turn grateful to us for bringing such life and light to their humble home. As a little hill-top church community, the small numbers can be discouraging some times. Coming from a seedling church (Bishan CoC) myself, I can empathise with the villagers. It is great that with God, we could be lights to their world.

In the afternoon, while we shopped in Kad Suan Gaew, one of our Soymates lost his wallet. Some of us did a chain prayer with him, some comforted him, while yet others helped to look for the wallet. We must learn from Mary and Martha and appreciate that each of us have different strengths and have different roles to play. We are all different parts in one body of Christ. An interesting point that was brought up was that the person who picked up the wallet had been blessed indirectly because there was money as well as some bible verses in it. There can be blessings in any situation.

Back at Payap, we had devotion with the congregation. During a sharing, we realised that a recurring theme in this trip was the faith of little children. There is much we can learn from them because of their innocence, open hearts and gratefulness. From another sharing, we realised the importance of letting our lives be living testimonies unto God. Our friends are watching our every action. Are our actions declaring God’s glory or are they sending out mixed messages? What kind of tools are we for our God and master?

On Tuesday when we visited the Payap canteen, we made friends with a young lady called Oi. Ever since, she has joined our activities every day. She shared with us this evening that we were her among her first few friends here, she too having just moved into Payap. We were, in her words, “like family”. In the five days she was with us, she told us that she had become a new person. Her two comments brought to my mind two scriptural thoughts. The first is that we should treat foreigners well because we too were once foreigners. Next is that in Christ we are new creatures. Truly we can see the changing power of God at work here.

After devotion, our team celebrated the birthdays of Sheena, Shermaine and Jia Ni. Due to a chain of miscommunications, the birthday girls felt rather low. Our team discussed the whole issue as we felt this mustard seed of a miscommunication could fester and become a mustard tree of distrust. The Devil was trying to throw us off the spiritual highs we are at. By going through the matter with our Lord, we can now claim triumph over the Tempter and through Christ say to him, “Get thee behind us, Satan”.

We assembled at the front door of Payap Zone at around 6am all packed for a night’s stay at Baw Gaew (mountain top). Tired and all, we settled our breakfast with hotdogs and cup noodles from the 7/11 near the Zone. Then we stacked our baggage on a hired truck and made our way to Baw Gaew. On our way there, almost everyone fell asleep despite the unbearably cold wind beating on our faces. Of course, we had fun snuggling together in the truck.

Finally, we reached the primary school at Baw Gaew. They hospitably welcomed us with open arms. Most of the children greeted us when they walked pass us! So cute. Then they lead us to the stage where we did a self introduction. Then, Candice, Kong Jo, Berm and Un lead the children into singing and acting songs like “peace like a river” and “J-E-S-U-S” cheer. The children actively participated in doing all the funny actions and cheers with us. We probably will not get such response in Singapore. Then we broke up into our different stations that facilitated the teaching of English. They are 1) listening, 2) reading 3) writing 4) speaking.

I was in the listening section and we played “old MacDonald’s” and “in/out of the boat” which required the children to listen to what we said and respond to it. Then we had packed lunch and started preparing for the carnival. Andris and Kenneth were dressed up prettily as they were to be the ones that gave out extra tickets to the children. The rest of us took charge of several games stations including dart throwing, ring tossing, twister, apple bobbing, ball throwing, fishing, etc. The children eagerly queued up for the games and we made use of the chance to give out gifts as prizes. These included teddy-bears, drinks, pencils, key-chains, candies, etc. We had lots of fun and we were sure that the children felt the same way.

In the afternoon after the English camp was over, we had a devotional and then we set off for the strawberry farm! But we hardly found any strawberries. Instead we plucked nice-smelling flowers.

Then we went to a small restaurant for our dinner. Finally we proceeded to the house of a local Christian for our campfire! We gathered on the mat around the fire and started singing songs and sharing stories.

A local Christian, Woot, shared his story followed by Jia Ni and Cheryl. Then we had a whole night of talking, star-gazing and fellowship followed by rest.

We had team devotional at 8 in the morning. The devotion was done by Shermaine and songs were led by Jeremy. Both of them did a very great job.

We had ‘jok’, Thai porridge, for breakfast at a stall near the moat. Then, we went to the waterfall for our own quiet time. We were given about half an hour to do our own devotions. Next, both the interns, Yan Ming and Reagan (from PJ church in Malaysia) shared about what they had learnt for the Purpose Driven Life book. It was a wonderful experience for us to be able to do devotions by the waterfall and also to hear what the interns had been learning over the past month. We proceeded back to the trucks. On our way down from the waterfall area, we came across stalls that sold fried insects (cockroaches, bats, worms, etc). Some of us tried the fried mealworms. It tasted ok except that it was quite powdery.

Lunch was at a stall that sold ‘khao soi’, Thai noodles with curry. After lunch, we came back to the Christian zone to get ready for the talent show at night. We had about 2 to 3 hours to prepare. Every group was busy preparing their items (except for some who still continued playing ping-pong). Ping-pong has become the most-loved game here.

The Thais prepared dinner for us. Pieces of chicken and pork were barbequed. And we ate it with sticky rice. A different way of having barbeque, and it was delicious. Talent show was up next.
1st item: Amazing Thailand – a dance performed by 3 Thais.
2nd item: Group 1 Skit – ‘Peanut Butter, yummy’ dance by Candice, Nicholas, Sheena. The theme was to teach us to look at things from different aspect.
3rd item: Singing by Candice, Titan, Berm and Un.
4th item: Group 4 Skit – ‘Love Story’ – dance performance on the song ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ by Kenneth, Andris, Nicholas and others.
5th item: Singing by Andris, Evangeline, Kong Jo and Titan.
6th item: Group 2: Musical Skit – Danny Potter and the Return of the Phoenix by Daniel, Jeremy, Evangeline and others
7th item: Group 3 Dance: Numa Dance by Woot, Keith, Cheryl, Shermaine, Nutt
8th item: Group 5 Skit: Kong Jo’s Story by Kevin, Kong Jo, Jia Ni and others

That’s how today ended. How wonderful!!!
We have to be ready by 6am tomorrow to go up to Baw Gaew. Pray that we will have a safe trip back and forth.

Bright and sunny morning, we amazingly woke up at 7.30 am. We got ready for our morning devotion at 8:30 am. The devotions were shared by Nicholas and Andris; they both did a pretty good job as they were very meaningful lessons from Mark Chapter 11 to 12.

After the devotion, we went to some Thai shop to have a quick breakfast as we needed to head back to the zone to have our Equipping class by a Thai guy named “Ah Tit”. He shared about his testimonial on how he became a Christian. Right after his speech, we headed out to Payap canteen to have our lunch and as usual to get to interact with the Thai students there, to tell them to come to Payap Zone as we will be having our Talent show this Thursday. Our purpose is to get people to know that we Christians are a family regardless of where we are from.

Then, after our visit, we headed for the city where we had a great time at the Thai Full Body Massage, which took about 2 hours at a cost of 200 baht (approx$10). We all enjoyed our experience as this was our first time. Well after feeling so relaxed, we went back to the zone.

After we are back at the zone, we were told that one of the Thai guys was getting baptize today, and his name is Woot. It is amazing because this guy had been at the Zone for quite a long time, came to Singapore last March with the Thai team and spent time with the people at the Payap Christian zone. Well now he is a member in our Christian family and we praise GOD for it.

We followed of our schedule after that and we went in groups to work at food stalls. It made a difference to us as we helped out the Thai stall owners. We helped in many ways like cleaning and washing of dishes, clearing tables and serving food. It was memorable. We worked for 4 hours.

We headed back to the Zone after that to do our reflection on what we have done for the day. We prayed with Woot at our closing for today.

We had breakfast at about 7.30 am. It was a treat from the adults. We went for prayer walk after breakfast. It took us 3 hours to pray continuously while walking along the moat. We prayed for each other in pairs. It was meant for us to motivate and encourage each other. We learnt a lot from this prayer walk and it inspired us a lot. It has stretched our ability to pray. We prayed for many things such as the situation in south Thailand, growth of relationships amongst Christians etc. All of these allowed us to grow and be drawn closer to God. The guys did their sharing on different topics during the prayer walk. They did a great job in sharing, praying and leading songs.

We had lunch at Brownie, a Western buffet restaurant. We ate a lot as we were hungry from the walk. We went back to the Christian Zone for team debrief and devotional after lunch. During the debrief, everyone shared their thoughts on the prayer walk. Team devotional was facilitated by Jia Ni and Jeremy at around 2pm. They went through Mark 8-9. Evangeline prepared the songs. All of them did a wonderful job.

We called the Payap University students whom we invited the day before. We met up with most of them outside the 7-11 shop near the Zone. However some weren’t able to come up. 5 of them came and we played games and sang praises to God. Evangeline and Sheena shared their stories of how they became Christians.

We went to Carrefour to have our dinner with the Thais and the new friends who had joined our cell group.

We had our free time after dinner. Some played ping pong, some sang songs and played games. After that, we went to rest.

We had devotion at eight thirty in the morning and Andris did the song leading. The people sharing for devotion today were Kenneth and Sheena. Sheena went through Chapter 5 and Kenneth went through chapter 7 of the gospel of Mark.

Went for breakfast at an eatery beside the Christian zone and after breakfast we took a walk to Payap university campus where Uncle Robert had Candice, Kevin, Daniel, Keith and Kenneth to do a role play each. The roles included a girl from a broken family wanting to commit suicide, a violent angry guy who feels hatred for the people in the church youth who had voted him out of the committee, an atheist, and a person who now stops going to church and finally someone who doesn’t really believe much in Christianity and doubts its credibility. Each group had to come out with answers on how to persuade them out of it. After that, everyone was given individual quiet time alone to reflect and think about what they have just learnt.

We went to the University campus canteen after that and the group was split into pairs. Each pair had to go into the canteen and talk to the students there, inviting them to the Christian zone on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon to join in fun-filled activities organized by the people from the Christian Zone. With God’s grace, many of us managed to convince the students there to come and took down their phone numbers. After that, we had a sharing session whereby everyone shared their feelings and thoughts about the devotion by Uncle Robert and the invitation to the Thai university students to the Christians.

We went to McKaen Island where lepers lived and performed songs and talked to them. It was a positive life-changing experience as many of us were astounded by the faith of the people there and the language barrier could not stop us from exchanging encouragements with each other. Many of us realized how blessed we were.

We headed to the night market with the interns after the trip to Mckaen Island and shopped there. Most of us went for the Thai foot massage with the exception of Kevin, Candice and Nicholas (he went rock-climbing).

After that we headed back to the Christian Zone where we had a debrief on the McKean hospital visit and then went to rest for the day.

Today is Sunday! We had morning devotional at 7.45 am. The facilitator was Cheryl and the song leader was Kong Jo. They both did a great job. We had morning worship right after that and Uncle Pak Fook was preaching. We sang 3 songs at the end of worship for the church. 1st was “Lord be there”, 2nd was “He is wonderful” and 3rd was “Someday”

We had a debrief session after that and then snuck out for an ice-cream treat at Swenson’s. We headed back to the church and found the Thais waiting for us so that everyone could begin lunch together.

There was a carnival after lunch where we played games. Everyone went back to their rooms to pack and we managed to get all the luggage down to the first floor without being late for 6 pm evening worship. Daniel and Kevin each gave a talk at evening worship. They were great too. We sang “Friends” and invited Bao (the Thai leader for the Bangkok leg of the trip) to sing “With Christ in the vessel” with us.

All too soon, we were set to go. We said our goodbyes and left for the airport where we met Sheena, Shermaine and Nicholas. We took the 1 hour flight to Chiang Mai and arrived safely at 9.40 pm. We ate Suki Hang at Chang Pueak and drove back to the Payap Zone building.

We continued with our activities with the Somprasong 4 church in Bangkok. It was a full day that ended with us witnessing the baptism of Ton, a young man who had been visiting the church. Ton met our team at the airport when we arrived and hung out with our group. We praise God for this new brother in Christ

We started the day with morning devotional. Keith and Evangeline were facilitators; and their texts were Mark 2:23-3:35 and Mark 4 respectively. After devotional, we went to a nearby coffee shop for breakfast. We headed back to the church building for another devotional - this time with the Thais. Aaron did sharing this time, and his topic was on faith.

Scavenger Hunt was next and we were divided into 3 groups. We had to go round the city completing the list of tasks given. The list included things like getting bus tickets, used movie tickets, names of people who worked at Orange Chain Hotel and giving our invitation flyers. It ended about 1 pm and lunch was at a nearby coffee shop.

After lunch, we had games with the youth from Somprasong church. We played using the same 3 group arrangements. The first game was a telematch and we had a few tasks to complete. First, we had to paint the face of our leader. Then a second team member had to use his teeth to fish a sweet out of a basin or water, run to the next station where he had to find a key from a plate of flour. The key was then used to unlock a message written on a piece of cardboard. A third team member had to do what the message said, which was to eat a bowl of noodles without using hands. The 4th team member then had to finish a cup of coke and then use the straw to transport water from a basin to a coke bottle. The last task was to blow a balloon, filled with flour, till it burst.Our 2nd game was a combination of the 3-legged race, and the game where people had to tie balloons around their ankles. We had to try and bust each other's balloons.
The 3rd game was where we had to wear gunny sacks over our legs and try to catch people from the other teams before they reached their base.

Our last game was water volleyball. We had 6 players on each side and had to pair up. Each pair had a towel and the water bomb was to be placed on the towel. The towel was then used to toss the bomb to the other side of the net.

We had a bit of free time after the games, so we cleaned up and then had choir practice before dinner and worship. For worship, we had a song leader from Thailand and one from our team. Uncle Paul spoke. Then we had a song item for the Thais. It turned out fine, tough we were kind of nervous and jumpy. Great for a first time.

Photo taking and mingling took place after worship. We thank Bao for organizing activities for us and we presented him with our Soy Milk t-shirt. We walked out to Pizza Company and had a supper treat! We went back for a short choir practice before we turned in.

Our day started early at 7.30 am with a team devotional. We are reading through the Gospel of Mark together on this trip. Candice and Aaron helped facilitate the group and came up with questions for the group.

It was breakfast after that. We went to the nearby Pratunam market to have some noodles and fried rice.After that, we had a team bonding assignment. Divided into two groups, the youth were to dress up one of their group members with a budget of 300 baht. They had fun working together and making decisions together.

We had a short stop at Big C mall for some refreshments and rest. We then went back to the church building.

6 Thais took our team to lunch and to the Grand Palace. The trip there was by the BTS (Bangkok Sky Train) and then a boat ride. They look around the palace grounds and then headed back to the church building.

It was 6 pm by then and the youths learnt to cook a Thai dish. Dinner followed and the Thai youth had a lock in with our youth. They sand, prayed listened to a devotional lesson by one of the Thais and played games.

Kevin and Kenneth arrived from Singapore on the Air Asia flight. By the time they got to the church building, it was already 11.20 pm.

We ended the day with a team meeting and prayer thanking God for a full day in Him.

Our Tiger Airways plane left Changi Airport on time. We are all seated separately as the plane had a full load nd we were the last group to board the plane. With the exception of some turbulence, the plane ride was uneventful. Some of us caught 40 winks. Others prepared their devotionals while others just chatted and relaxed.

When we got out of the airport at Bangkok, we were greeted by about 10 Thai Christians. They took out luggage in the church van to the church building. We took a hired bus to a restaurant serving all you can eat Korean BBQ... they call it Moogatad. After dinner, we headed back to the Somprasong church building, went to our rooms and cleaned up. We had a short team meeting before hitting the bed.... it was near 12 midnight (Thai time)... but some slept in the wee hours of the morning.

but anyway, it's been so great here that i don't even want to go back to Singapore. I'm now comtemplating on whether to come for the internship for a month next year. haha.

Monday
went to school to retake scales. mrs phua tested only like 2 scales, 1 contrary motion, 1 chromatic and 2 arpeggios. well, i guess she passed me. was told that she's changing my ps teacher. oh wells, my ps teacher's not happy that i've been changing lessons. but honestly, i don't think i changed a lot of lessons, only once or twice. nvm, that's wad she thinks then so be it.
watched harry potter and the goblet of fire with jovan, nuzli, samuel and fairul. the show's ok, think the last few ones are better.

met up with jwen and jobyna to go shopping. they went for a hair cut. went down to company with nuzli. it's been a while since i last met up with the people there. a lot has happened, shall not go into detail. met up with wei kang at heeren, si han joined us later. went to hmv with them. wei kang is really crazy over cds. we went round heeren trying to look for clothes for si han. jwen and jobyna joined us. we realised it's kinda hard looking clothes for this guy. but, i think u look fine in that green t-shirt. nvm, we'll do this again when we meet up. haha. joby went off, den nuzli also went off. jwen, wei kang, sihan and i went to marche. a so-called farewell lunch for me. that's what jwen said. we were practically the noisiest. we spoke in 'f' language, then we tried 'g' language, and finally the 'n' lanuage. the 'n' language is different from the 'f' language which has a formula. for the 'n' language, we just replace the first letter of each syllable with the letter n. we laughed like mad, even while paying. and the cashier guy was laughing at us. so dumb. but we really enjoyed ourselves. met up with mum and bro. went shopping. reached home around 10+ and packed my luggage. i'm totally dumb at packing. coz no matter how i put my stuff, it's still no disorganized. so, i left the packing to my mum. haha. it's their nature, they can pack things very well. and they pack extra, which is not very good, esp for this trip where i'm supposed to travel light.

Wednesday
went to watch harry potter again. and it's so boring to watch it twice! this time i went with my mum and bro. was packing my bag the whole night, took out everything and repacked. so sian, i couldnt recall where i put my adaptor. was on the phone with andris, haha she also hasn't really packed her things.

Thursday
looked for my adaptor, but still couldnt find it.
aaron came into my room and told me my adaptor was already in my luggage. apparently, my mum put it in.
today's the day. first, my bro is collecting his psle results. next, i'll be leaving for bangkok, finally! but still got 3 more hours to go before i leave for the airport. will be meeting shi jia there. it's been ages since i last met up with her. great, i'm leaving, yet i haven't done my devotionals and haven't prepared my story. dots. i'm so dead.
